Guillotine From The Crucifix

The two keys I see here on this nifty guillotine are the ways that Jason never lets the space between him and his partner get larger than it absolutely needs too. One of the cardinal rules in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is, if on offense, you are looking to decrease the space between you and your partner at every opportunity you get. Here, Jason first establishes the crucifix position, isolating that arm in between legs and keeping that collection snug. Then, notice how he threads his choking hand in the slight space that he already had a controlling arm in while establishing the crucifix- in essence, no space was given up or lost, since one hand was exchange for the other, and control was maintained the entire time. No chance for his partner to scramble and make something happen. Second, Jason’s far side leg BECOMES his near side leg when he makes the move to wrap the neck, maintaining that crucial connection between ankle and hip that lets Jason know if it’s ok to try and finish the choke or if a hop over attempt escape is in the works. Mr. Scully never cedes an inch, and if anything he continuously tightens the entire equation while hunting for this guillotine from the crucifix. Very slick.

Hope this helped, see you on the mats!
